Liz, a runner who has competed in the Boston Marathon, finds the walk a great way to stay in shape and make new friends. “We welcome anyone to join us,” she says, noting that the beauty of sunrise on the lake makes the trek exhilarating and the hills make it good exercise. “We see deer and all kinds of little animals. It’s safe and secure, and it’s convenient. You can peel off a jacket and it will be where you left it when you return. If you want to add miles, you have a built-in water stop - your own house.”
It was a long run from Starkville that first brought Liz to Browning Creek several years ago when the lake was under construction. “I happened up on this huge dam and, looking out over the lake, thought it was the most beautiful site I had ever seen, even though there was no water in it. I watched the progress because we ran out there every week. Then, I found myself driving out there.” The Watkins built a Southern Living design home and have enjoyed living at Browning Creek since 1998.
